Workshop: What's in a name? Energy Cooperatives or Energy Communities?

    For REScoop.eu members only

    Main Conference Hall

At the end of 2019, the new directives of the Clean Energy for All Europeans package gave our members not one but two definitions for our REScoop.eu members; Renewable Energy Community (REC) and Citizen Energy Community (CEC).

Ever since, the EU energy community concepts have evolved. In this workshop, together with the REScoop.eu members, we will consider this evolution, along with the direction we want our federation, as well as the EU energy community concepts, to evolve.

Workshop: Beauty spot or transformative actor? Energy communities in a radical energy transition

    Room: Telč

Energy coops have not yet reached their full potential as a democratising force of the energy sector. To change this, first, we will outline a radical alternative vision for the electricity sector. What is the market design, ownership structure, network development & operation, and flexibility provision that we should aim for?

Second, we will discuss the prospective role of the energy community movement to transform the energy sector. How to move toward a democratic, just & decarbonised energy sector in collaboration with other transformative actors? To get closer to this change, we will explore the collaboration potentials with other actors, such as the wider cooperative movement (especially housing coops), pioneer municipalities, trade unions.
